Tony Award-winning puppet musical Avenue Q is teaming up with Logo TV for a series of national public service announcements to raise awareness about HIV and HIV prevention. The campaign will include six on-air spots, dubbed "Puppet Service Announcements," written by the musical's book writer Jeff Whitty. The segments will feature puppets from the off-Broadway musical, including Lucy the Slut, Rod and Ricky.
"We are very proud to be partnering with Logo on this important effort. Throughout its run, the Avenue Q puppets have been able to tackle key issues — from presidential elections to same-sex marriage and now HIV awareness — in their own, singular heart-'felt' way," said co-producer Robyn Goodman in a statement.
The TV spots will debut on January 28 during the season premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race. The campain will cover a range of topics including removing the shame of HIV, talking openly about sex with your partners, the importance of being tested and HIV treatment. New spots are scheduled to roll out every eight weeks throughout 2013.
